  • As we move forward with the transition of recycling collections to Building Services, please review these reminders on collections procedures campus-wide:
  • Individual Office Recycling Collection: There are no longer individual office recycling pick-ups available. This    change took place several years ago, but a few campus community members were still receiving this service. This is no longer possible. Please take your recycling to the nearest centralized recycling site for pick-up. These are located in your work rooms, copy rooms, break rooms, or in the hallway nearest you.
  • Deskside Recycling Containers: If you are in need of a small deskside recycling container to collect your recycling until you can move it to a centralized site, please email recycle [at] appstate [dot] edu or call 262-7296.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact maxwelljb [at] appstate [dot] edu (Jennifer Maxwell) or carrieredm [at] appstate [dot] edu (Debbie Carriere) with Building Services at 262-4048.
  • Pilot Program:  Removal of Trash Cans from Classrooms
In an effort to increase recycling rates and improve collection efficiency across campus, the Waste Reduction and Recycling Office in collaboration with Building Services, has developed a pilot program to remove trash cans from the classrooms. Adequate recycling and trash collection containers will be placed throughout the hallways in each building for convenience. It will be the responsibility of the classroom occupant to take their recycling and trash and place it in the proper container in the hallway when they leave.  Read more.

About ASU Recycles

The ASU Recycles program is an in-house operation housed in the Physical Plant and targeting all academic and administrative buildings on campus. In addition to the standard recyclables, we also collect several other special recycling items in various locations throughout campus. The recycling program began as a student initiative in 1989.

Waste Diversion

Through an ongoing comprehensive education and outreach plan, we have been able to successfully grow this program over the past several years. We have increased awareness of the need to reduce and reuse, while our overall waste diversion rate has increased. This rate is the percentage of our total municipal solid waste stream that has been diverted from the landfill through reuse and recycling.

Waste Diversion Rate

Any campus community member can schedule an education/motivation session as needed. This session will enable the campus community to participate effectively in our program and help existing faculty, staff and students renew their commitment to waste reduction and recycling.
